Cougar Rowing Tunes Up for Pac-10s at Windermere Cup

May 7, 2005

SEATTLE -- The Washington State women's rowing team sent three crews to the 19th Annual Windermere Cup on Montlake Cut, Saturday.

Competing for the Cougars were the varsity four, novice eight and second varsity eight. WSU recorded a pair of runner-up finishes as well as a third place effort.

"It was a tough day. We finished up one of our hardest training weeks and we didn't get the results we wanted," Cougar Head Coach Jane LaRiviere said. "We're going to have to toughen up. We have to recognize that we've had some good results this year and we're not going to surprise anyone."

The varsity four rowed a time of 7:28.44, finishing second to Washington's 7:20.50. The novice eight race was captured by Gonzaga in a time of 6:57.61. The Huskies were second in 6:58.61 followed by the Cougars at 7:03.49.

"The novice eight rowed a great race," LaRiviere said. "It was one of the bright spots in our day."

Washington won the Cascade Cup (second varsity eight) with a time of 6:39.72. WSU was second at 6:44.25.

The Cougars will compete in the Pacific-10 Championships, May 15 on Lake Natoma at Rancho Cordova, Calif.
