WSU Squads Sweep Duke At The Clemson Classic

Clemson, S.C. - The Washington State University women's rowing squads started the Clemson Classic with a splash after sweeping Duke in three races at Lake Hartwell, Saturday.

The No. 12 ranked Cougar varsity eight dominated No. 22 Duke, besting the Blue Devils by almost 10 seconds. The Cougars finished the 2000m course in 6:35.9 compared to Duke's time of 6:44.0.

The second varsity eight cruised to a victory in their competition. The Cougar squad beat Duke's freshman eight by over 20 seconds.

Four of WSU's second varsity eight squad served double duty, competing in the varsity four race as well. The four athletes rowed to their second victory of the day, recording a time of 7:34.4.

"Our squads did well today," WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere said. "We're looking forward to more good racing tomorrow."

The Cougars are back in action, Sunday. WSU will face No. 20 (varsity eight) Tennessee and Clemson to wrap up the two-day competition.
