MONTLAKE CUT, Seattle - The Washington State women's rowing team captured two victories, highlighted by a win in the varsity four race over Washington, at the Husky Invitational Saturday morning on the Montlake Cut in Seattle.

"We had a great day racing," said WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. "We had great races and it was a great day to be a Coug."

The Cougars raced two crews in the fours race finishing first and second. The WSU "A" crew finished the race 11 seconds before second place finisher, WSU "B". The "A" squad rowed to a time of 7:28.2, with the "B" squad earned a mark of 7:37.4. The Washington "A" and "B" crews placed third and fourth, rowing to times of 7:39.5 and 7:46.1.

WSU also competed in the eights race. The Cougar crew, comprised of varsity four members from the earlier race and rowers who had not yet competed for the day, captured the win over a Husky crew and a crew from Lehigh University. The WSU crew completed the race rowing to a mark of 6:51.1. Washington edged Lehigh for the second place finish, 7:00.6 to 7:02.4.

The Cougars' novice crews also saw action on the water but fell in two races to the Huskies. Washington earned the victory in the novice eight race with a mark of 7:11.8. The WSU novice squad completed the course with a time of 7:19.7. In the second novice eight race, the Cougs rowed to a time of 7:55.2 while Washington earned the win with a time of 7:35.8.

WSU will hit the water again April 16 when it hosts rival Washington in a dual regatta at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River in Pullman.
