March 28, 2004

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - The Washington State women's rowing varsity eight and second varsity eight boats both fell to Michigan State Sunday to conclude their weekend of racing at the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic.

The two-day event kicked off Saturday with WSU defeating Cornell in the earlier races, but later fell to No. 7 Virginia, and ended Sunday with the races against Michigan State.

Michigan States' varsity eight rowed a time of 6:36.20 to defeat the Cougars varsity eight. WSU finished with a time of 6:39.00 in the 2000 meter race.

In the second varsity eight race, the Spartan's rowed a time of 6:51.40 to the Cougars 6:53.90 in the 2000 meter race.

"I'm very proud of how we raced, Michigan State is certainly deserving of their No. 8 ranking," WSU Head Coach Jane LaRiviere said. "I do think that we can go faster though, and if we make a few adjustments we'll have a very good season."

"That was one of the best regatta's I've ever been a part of. Windermere did a remarkable job putting on this event," LaRiviere said of the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic.
