Women's Rowing Victorious At Fawley Cup

PULLMAN, Wash - The Washington State University women's rowing team opened the spring season with a victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Fawley Cup Regatta at Wawawai Landing along the Snake River, Saturday.
In the varsity eight race, WSU clocked a time of 6:48.8, besting Gonzaga's 7:05.3. In the second varsity eight event, the Cougars rowed a time of 6:49.3 while Gonzaga finished with a time of 7:20.5. The third varsity eight race was closer but once again WSU prevailed, turning in a time of 7:15.2 to the Bulldogs' 7:20.9. In the varsity four race, the Cougars turned in a time of 8:51.5 to Gonzaga's 8:58.4.
WSU avenged a defeat to the Bulldogs during the 2001 fall season with a victory in the novice eight competition as the Cougars rowed to a time of 7:28.2 to the Bulldogs' 7:42.9. In the second novice eight race, WSU clocked a 7:40.2 to Gonzaga's 8:09.0.
"It was a solid day of racing for us," said WSU Head Coach Tammy Crawford. "It came after a hard week of intense training. Overall, I am really proud of the team."
The Cougars return to Wawawai Landing next week for the Winchell Cup against Oregon State, Saturday, March 30 at 3 p.m.
