Josh Adam Position: Assistant Coach Experience: Second Season Alma Mater: Seattle Pacific

Josh Adam enters his second season as an assistant women's rowing coach at Washington State, after a two-year stint at Indiana University. Most recently, Adam coached the U.S. Women's National Team Under-23 Scullers this past summer.

In his first season at Washington State, Adam helped coach the Cougars varsity four to a second-place finish in the OGE NightSprint at the Head of the Oklahoma in the fall season, beating out Stanford and Oklahoma. Later in the fall, Adam led the four to a defeat over Gonzaga. During the spring season, the varsity four defeated then-No. 15 Michigan and then-No. 7 Michigan State at the Ohio State Invite and capped off the regular season with a sweep of Oregon State.

At the Pacific-10 Conference Championships, the varsity four took home a fourth-place finish after out-stroking UCLA, Oregon State, and Stanford. At the NCAA Rowing Championships, Adam helped the Cougars take home a 12th-place finish after all three varsity boats advanced to the Petite Final.

At Indiana Adam worked to develop novice rowers for the varsity squad, collaborated with team training, and served as the domestic recruiting coordinator.

Adam began coaching at his alma mater, Seattle Pacific University, in 2000 where he acted as an assistant varsity and head novice coach for the men's and women's teams through 2002. Following his time at SPU, Adam was the head men's novice coach at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore., from 2003-05. While living in Portland, he was also the head master's women's coach at Station L Rowing Club from 2004-05.

From 2005-08 Adam was the volunteer assistant and graduate assistant coach for the University of Minnesota women's rowing team. He volunteered to aid in the development of the novice women's squad for the fall 2005 season. Adam was reassigned in the spring of 2005 season to the varsity squad, where he remained as a graduate assistant through 2008.

Outside of collegiate and master's rowing, Adam has performed U.S. National team development work as a coach for both lightweight and open weight women. In 2006 he volunteered at the Pocock Rowing Center in Seattle, Wash. He coached the U23 LW2x at the U23 World Championship in Strathclyde, Scotland in 2007. During the summer of 2011, Adam coached the US Women's National Team Under-23 Scullers.

During the summer of 2008, Adam served as the head coach for the development camp and coached the U23 LW2x at the U23 World Championships in Brandenburg, Germany. In 2009, he led an U.S. National Pre-Elite group out of Indiana University. Adam is spending this summer as the head coach for the U.S. National Pre-Elite based out of the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, Pa.

An athlete himself, Adam rowed for four years at Seattle Pacific University, culminating in receipt of the university's highest award for student-athletes, the Falcon Award for Excellence. He also participated in pre-elite rowing camps at Lake Washington Rowing Club in 1998 and Nereid Rowing Club in 2000.

Adam earned a B.A. in both history and Christian education with a minor in European studies from Seattle Pacific University in 2000 before going on to earn his master's degree in sports and exercise science at the University of Minnesota in 2008.
