FIRST ON THE FIRST
WSU's game against the Beavers marks the first time in school history that the Cougars will play on New Year's Day.
The Cougars are 7-16 all-time in Pacific-10 Conference openers, and have lost each of their last two. Coincidentally, WSU's last victory in a conference opener came against Oregon State, Dec. 21, 2006 (58-41) in Corvallis, Ore.
This year's league opener marks the fourth-straight year WSU will open Pacific-10 Conference play on the road.
The Cougars and Beavers split last year's series, with each team defending its home court. WSU has won two of the last three meetings, though each Cougar victory was played at Friel Court. The Cougars are looking for their first road victory over the Beavers since winning their conference opener Dec. 21, 2006 (58-41), having lost on each of the last two trips to Gill Coliseum. WSU is 24-43 all-time against OSU, including an 8-25 mark in Corvallis.
DAUGHERTY NEARING 600
WSU's meeting against Oregon State will be the 599th game of June Daugherty's head coaching career. Daugherty will reach 600 games as a head coach against Oregon (Jan. 3).
