Hi there! I'm Linda Rubenthaler, women's basketball administrative assistant, and it's my turn for blogging. This is my fifth year with women's basketball.
Ok, if Coach Mike's job is to keep the head coach happy, mine is to keep everyone happy!
My work is basically to keep the office going and be the "hub of the wheel". This consists of typing correspondence, recruit mailings, deposits, ordering supplies, maintaining the database, making appointments for the head coach and reimbursements among other things...oh, and making Mike laugh so he's not so testy.
I have special projects on a regular basis such as helping coordinate the office renovations, recruiting visits, booster events and refereeing Brian and Mo's "debates".
With the new staff I do have the pleasure of working with some really fun women. June, Kate and Nikki definitely help me keep my sanity most days. They are funny, smart and always there for me. You gotta have girlfriends to cover your back and they do a great job. We keep the "guys" grounded and focused on the task at hand (which is can be pretty tough to do sometimes).
Now, to my favorite part of my job...working with the players i.e. my "peeps" (think little chicks not posse). They are a wonderful bunch of young ladies and I'm very proud to have them represent our program. Every time they take the court it's like watching my own kids. I see them come here as naive freshmen and watch them grow and mature into experienced seniors. I consider myself their "eccentric auntie" and I get to encourage, spoil and give hugs when needed. My job is not to teach, like the coaches, but to enjoy them. They also never know what I might say to embarrass or tease them so they are really, really nice to me.
All in all it's a pleasure to come to work with people that look after me and take care of me which makes taking care of them very rewarding.
When I'm not at work I spend my time being mom to Noelle, 22, Logan, 20 and Ryder, 13. Noelle is a senior at WSU, Logan works at Les Schwab tires (the snow rush is coming!) and Ryder enjoys basketball, drawing and his pets. My husband, Randy, works for the city of Pullman.
P.S. Did I mention that I work for Volleyball also? But that's another story...
