PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's basketball team opened its 2011-12 season with its first official practice at the newly rebranded basketball practice facility Monday.
The Cougars practiced for two hours, working through a number of shooting drills, defensive drills and scrimmaging for the final 10 minutes before wrapping practice with some conditioning.
WSU welcomes back four starters and 11 letterwinners from last year's squad that posted the most conference wins (6), the highest scoring average (63.0 ppg) and highest shooting percentage (.381) since 2000-01. The Cougars posted their highest finish since the 1997-98, tying for seventh after posting season sweeps over California and Oregon State and beating Oregon and Oregon State on the same weekend to record their first weekend sweep in conference play since 2001. WSU finished the year with a school-record 208 made three-point field goals and the second-most assists in program single-season history.
The Cougars host a pair of exhibition games Oct. 29 against Seattle-Pacific and Nov. 6 against Lewis & Clark State. Both game times are set for 1 p.m.
