PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's basketball team opened its 2012-13 season with its first official practice Monday.
The Cougars practiced for two hours, working through a number of shooting drills, defensive drills and scrimmaging for the final 10 minutes before wrapping practice with some conditioning.
Washington State returns nine letterwinners including three starters and welcomes in six freshmen. Last year's squad posted 13 wins and closed the season with a home win over UCLA along with the program's inaugural wins and a semifinal run at the Pac-12 Conference tournament.
The Cougars host a pair of exhibition games Oct. 30 against Simon Fraser and Nov. 3 against Western Oregon. Washington State opens the regular season at the Best Buy Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis Nov. 10-11.
