Jan. 2, 2012
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State University's Jazmine Perkins has been named Bank of the West Pac-12 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 26-Jan. 1, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Perkins had a pair of double-doubles in the opening weekend of Pac-12 action, leading the Cougars to a pair of road wins against University of Oregon and Oregon State University to post its first 2-0 start in conference play since the 2000-01 season.
The senior guard from Berkeley, Calif. earns her first career weekly accolade after averaging 13.0 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.0 steals per game in the road sweep of UO and OSU, the first time the Cougars have swept a road series since 1994-95.
Perkins had 15 points and 12 boards to go with four assists and four steals in a 75-47 win at Oregon in the team's Pac-12 opener last Thursday. She followed up with an 11-point 15-rebound outing while playing a career-high 44 minutes in the 61-54 double-overtime thriller versus the Beavers Saturday. Perkins also hit all four of her free throw attempts in the final 20 seconds of double overtime to seal the win.
Perkins owns six career double-doubles, including all three of WSU's this season, all coming in the last three games starting with her 11 points and 15 rebounds at No. 11/13 Ohio State before reaching the mark in both contests this past weekend.
The Cougs (8-6, 2-0 Pac-12) return to Pullman to begin a three-game homestand this week, hosting new Pac-12 members University of Utah Thursday and University of Colorado Saturday.
