PULLMAN, Wash. - Kate Benz tallied her third consecutive double-digit rebounding game with 13 boards and Ariana Scales added 10 points in the Washington State women's basketball team 67-39 loss to the No. 21 Arizona State Sun Devils, Monday at Friel Court.

Benz's rebounding effort was the third best of her career and followed a 15-rebound performance, Dec. 21 against Valparaiso. The sophomore from Portland, Ore., has averaged 13.3 rebounds over the last three games.

In addition to Scales double-digit scoring effort, Benz added eight points as did Charmaine Jones. A trio of Sun Devils -- Emily Westerberg, Amy Denson and Kristen Kovesdy -- each scored 11 points to lead ASU.

The Sun Devils (9-2) led throughout in what was the Pacific-10 Conference opener for both teams. Down 32-15 at the half, a 3-pointer from Denson extended ASU's advantage to 20 at 35-15 with 18:42 remaining.

The Sun Devils then hit a drought, going scoreless over the ensuing 6:44. WSU (4-6) took advantage, scoring 13 straight points to pull within seven at 35-28 with 11:58 remaining.

But a Loney 3-pointer brought ASU back to a double-digit advantage at 38-28 with 11:45 left. The Sun Devils' lead would not fall below double figures the rest of the way.

ASU shot 25-of-60 (41.7 percent) while WSU was 15-of-51 (29.4 percent) from the field.

WSU returns to action, Wednesday, Dec. 29 when it hosts Arizona (9-2). Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Friel Court.
