Box Score

WACO, Texas - Sophomore Sophia Young scored a career-high 27 points as the Baylor women's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 76-39 win Saturday night over Washington State at the Ferrell Center.

The 37-point margin of victory was actually the smallest of the young season for the Lady Bears (3-0), who have won their first three games by an average of 43 points per game. Washington State (3-1) lost for the first time this season, but the Cougars have already won more games than they did last season, when the squad went 2-26.

Young led all players with 27 points and added eight rebounds, while junior Steffanie Blackmon scored 18 points and fell one rebound shy of a double-double. Senior Bianca McCall led the Cougars with nine points and eight rebounds.

Young had 15 points in the first half and Blackmon had 10 as Baylor carried a 40-23 lead into halftime. The Lady Bears are averaging a 22-point lead at halftime in three games this season.

On the night, Baylor outshot Washington State 55 percent to 26 percent. The Lady Bears have shot over 50 percent in all three games and are shooting 54 percent from the floor on the season.

Saturday night served as a reunion of sorts, as sisters Jessika and Nikki Stratton faced off for the first time as collegiate players. Jessika, a Baylor senior, had eight points, five rebounds and four assists on the night. Nikki, a freshman at Washington State, recorded her first collegiate basket and played a season-high 18 minutes.
