WSU Falls To Michigan in Second Game of Paradise Jam

ST. THOMAS, U.S.Virgin Islands -- Washington State University dropped a 69-39 contest to the University of Michigan in the second day of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam Friday evening.
Senior Jazmine Perkins led the Cougars (3-3) with nine points and five rebounds and freshmen Tia Presley chipped in with eight points while making her first career start. The Wolverines (6-0) hot shooting proved to be too much for the Cougars as Michigan finished the game shooting 51.1 percent from the field including nine three's, shooting 56.3 percent from behind the arc.
Michigan opened the game with the three ball, hitting three from beyond the arc to and adding a layin to build an 11-0 lead. The Cougars later received a boost from their bench as Rosette Adzasu drove into the lane and layed one in high off the glass before Perkins made a steal and went coast-to-coast for a layin.
Midway through the half, the shots started to fall for the Cougs as Tia Presley hit at three from the right wing and Tarnowski came off the bench to knock down a pair of long range jumpers. Michigan continued to knock down shots though; hitting five three's in the first half.
The Cougars continued to battle as Cook added a three and Perkins connected on a jumper from the top of the key to send WSU into the half trailing 35-18. The Wolverines shot nearly 60 percent through the first 20 minutes while the Cougs were held to 33.3 percent from the floor.
Michigan continued to knock down shots in the second half even as Perkins hit a three and Presley added five straight points. Adzasu later scored four straight points on a nice drive and spin for a layup before hitting a pair of free throws. She then drove into the lane and dished off to Shalie Dheensaw for a bucket.
The Wolverines answered every WSU bucket and went on to post the win. Adzasu and Dheensaw each finished with six points as the Cougars saw their record fall to 1-1 in the tournament after shooting 32.7 percent from the field.
Washington State closes out Paradise Jam play against Prairie View A&M 2:45 p.m. (PT) Saturday.
