PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State's Candace Fields scored 18 points and Jessica Perry added 16 in the Cougars' 76-66 loss to Northwest Sports in women's basketball exhibition action, Saturday at Friel Court.

In what was a tight game throughout, the Cougars were unable to overcome the performance of Northwest Sports and WNBA player Erin Thorn.

Thorn, who saw action in 23 games for the New York Liberty last season, scored a game-high 31 points on 10-of-25 shooting from the field. Lisa Hansen (16 points) and Syd Perno (13 points) also scored in double-digits for Northwest Sports.

"Last year gave us a false sense of security with some of the teams that we played," WSU Head Coach Sherri Murrell said, referring to the Cougars' two exhibition wins last season. "Erin Thorn is a pretty darn good player. I'm glad we got tested; that's a positive."

Fields posted her team-high total in points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field. In addition, the senior from Coolidge, Ariz., also added six rebounds. Bianca McCall led both teams with 10 boards.

"She's awesome," Murrell said of Fields. "(Candace) worked extremely hard over the summer. She revealed to me that she is every bit the player that I thought she was."

The game was tied at 64 with 3:08 remaining but Northwest Sports ended the game on a 12-2 run to capture the win. Thorn accounted for six points in that stretch and also threw in an assist, rebound and block for good measure.

WSU continues its exhibition season, Tuesday, Nov. 11 against Basketball Travelers at 7 p.m. at Friel Court.
