PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State's Kate Benz recorded her third double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the Cougars' 78-57 loss to the UCLA Bruins in Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball action, Saturday at Friel Court.

The loss dropped WSU to 5-17 overall and 1-12 in the Pac-10. UCLA improved to 12-10 overall and 7-6 in conference play.

Benz's double-double was her third in the past five games. In addition, the freshman from Portland, Ore., recorded a season-high in points on 8-of-19 shooting from the field.

Bianca McCall registered her fourth consecutive game scoring in double figures with 18 points while freshman Adriane Ferguson added 10 points for the Cougars.

Noelle Quinn led a trio of Bruins in double figures with 21 points. Nikki Blue (15 points) and Amanda Livingston (12 points) completed the trio.

Despite out-rebounding its opponent for the 11th time this season, WSU was once again plagued by turnovers. The Cougars out-rebounded the Bruins 47-34, including 22-9 on the offensive end, but committed 28 turnovers for the second consecutive game.

WSU also struggled from the floor, shooting 16-of-60 (26.7 percent) from the field including 2-of-16 from three-point territory. Conversely, UCLA was 31-of-64 (48.4 percent) for the game.

"UCLA didn't put that much pressure on us and we still turned it over," WSU Head Coach Sherri Murrell said. "That is the story of the game.

"When you have 22 offensive boards and you shoot 26 percent, there is something wrong," Murrell added. "But UCLA is good; they have great guards."

The Bruins, who never trailed in the game, led 33-25 at the half. The Cougars pulled to within five at 45-40 with 13:51 remaining but UCLA put the game away with an 18-4 run over the next 5:52 to go up 63-44.

WSU returns to action at Oregon, Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
