Arizona State Downs Cougars 70-52

TEMPE, Ariz. - Washington State's Bianca McCall scored 17 points and Holly Harris added a season-high 15 in the Cougars' 70-52 loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils in Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball action, Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena.
Jen Albert led Arizona State with a game-high 18 points. Jill Noe recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds and Carrie Buckner added 12 points for the Sun Devils.
The Cougars jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the opening five minutes as McCall scored six of the Cougars' points in that stretch.
After slicing their deficit to 12-10, the Sun Devils used an 11-0 run to take a 21-12 advantage with 9:04 remaining. ASU would extend its lead to 38-22 at the conclusion of the first half.
The Sun Devils took advantage of their bench as nine players made a dent on the scoreboard - including six that scored at least four points - in the first half. Conversely, the Cougars had five players that scored while McCall and Harris accounted for 16 of the team's 22 first half points.
ASU built its lead to as many as 23 at one point in the second half. However, WSU would not go away cutting its deficit to 15 on three occasions, the final time at 61-46 with 5:05 remaining.
In the second half, ASU outscored the Cougars by a 32-30 margin.
The Sun Devils controlled the boards ending the game with a 52-35 advantage including 21-6 on the offensive end. In addition, the Cougars committed 23 turnovers to ASU's 14.
McCall garnered her point total on 7-of-13 shooting while Harris was 5-of-7 from the field.
"Holly works so hard," WSU Coach Sherri Murrell said of Harris' play. "If she sees a ball anywhere near her she is going to be diving for it. Her scrappiness paid off tonight."
WSU returns to action, Saturday, Feb. 8 against Arizona at 1 p.m. Pacific.
