LOS ANGELES -- With 21-point performances from both Ebony Hoffman and Rachel Woodward, the USC women's basketball team easily defeated Washington State, 79-38, on Sunday (Feb. 3) at the Sports Arena. The Cougars' (2-20, 0-12 Pac-10) losing streak continues as the Women of Troy handed WSU its 15th straight loss of the season. The Trojans improve to 12-10 overall and 8-5 in the Pac-10.

In addition to Hoffman and Woodward's 42-point scoring contribution, guard Jessica Cheeks also added 12 points for the Women of Troy. Hoffman led on the boards with nine and Aisha Hollans led with five assists.

The Cougars, despite opening with the first basket and holding USC scoreless in the first three minutes, were quickly left behind. The Trojans entered halftime with a 38-24 lead.

After the break, the Women of Troy made certain the game was not going to get any closer. USC embarked on a 16-0 run (22-0 counting the final four points in the first half) in the first seven minutes to go ahead by 30 (54-24). The Cougars were held without a field goal until the 10:42 mark following a layup by WSU center Brittany Hawks.

Washington State had its opportunity as USC went cold with eight minutes remaining, but in a four-minute window WSU only managed to hit three shots to bring the score to 68-36. The Cougar's 38 game points marked a season low for a USC opponent in 2002.

The Women of Troy return to the Sports Arena on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m. to face crosstown rival UCLA.
