LOS ANGELES - Washington State dropped its Pac-12 Conference road opener 78-52 to No. 14/15 UCLA at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles Friday.

Washington State saw its record fall to 5-9, 1-2 in Pac-12 play while UCLA improved to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in conference.

Sophomore guard Tia Presley led WSU with 16 points and freshman guard Lia Galdeira added 11 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Hana Potter grabbed eight boards and freshman guard Taylor Edmondson chipped in with six points.

The hot-shooting Bruins shot 56.3 percent from the floor and scored 31 points off of 19 WSU turnovers. The Cougars were held 34.6 percent from the field including 2-for-12 from behind the three-point line.

The Cougars jumped out to an early 8-2 lead after a pair of buckets from junior forward Brandi Thomas and layups by Romberg and Presley.

UCLA countered with an 8-3 run before both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half as neither team saw its lead grow past six. Galdeira closed the half with final four points for the Cougars, hitting a runner in the lane before knocking down to at the line to cut the Bruins lead to 35-31 at the break.

Galdeira led Washington State with 10 first-half points while Presley added seven points and two steals. UCLA shot over 53 percent from the floor while holding WSU to 1-for-7 from behind the arc.

Galdeira opened the second half by making a nice no-look entry pass to Noyes on the low block who spun past her defender before finishing with a layup to cut the Bruins lead to two.

UCLA answered with a bucket then went to its full-court press that sparked a 20-3 run and grew its lead to 19 that proved to be too much for the Cougars.

Washington State continues its Los Angeles road trip with a Sunday matchup at USC. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
