Box Score

LOS ANGELES - Washington State's Kate Benz and Adriane Ferguson each scored 13 points and Bianca McCall added 11 in the Cougars' 82-52 loss to the USC Women of Troy in Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball action Sunday at Lyon Center.

The loss dropped WSU to 4-11 overall and 0-6 in the Pacific-10 Conference. USC improved to 7-6 and 4-1 in conference play.

The freshmen pair of Benz and Ferguson each recorded their third double-digit scoring game of the season. Ferguson also added a game-high eight rebounds, all coming in the second half.

McCall's 11 points was her eighth game in double-digits this season and the 29th of her career.

USC shot a scorching 21-of-32 (65.6 percent) in the first half en route to taking a 49-20 halftime lead. For the game, the Women of Troy shot 51.5 percent (34-of-66) but only outscored WSU in the second half 33-32.

Ebony Hoffman led the Women of Troy with a game-high 16 points. Hoffman headed a quartet of USC players that scored in double figures. Chloe Kerr (11 points), Rometra Craig (11 points) and Jamie Hagiya (10 points) completed the contingent.

"USC is pretty athletic; they looked like their football team for awhile, especially in the first half," WSU Head Coach Sherri Murrell said.

"I'm not proud of our performance in the first half but one thing I am proud of is that we are down 30 and I have kids playing hard up to the very end," Murrell added. "That gives us hope for the next game. There are not too many teams that are winning on the road in the Pac-10."

WSU returns to action for a two-game homestand later this week. The Cougars host Oregon State, Thursday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. and Oregon, Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. Both games are at Friel Court.
