Brian Holsinger

Brian Holsinger, the Cougars' recruiting and defensive coordinator, is in his sixth season as an assistant coach at Washington State University.

In his first five seasons as recruiting coordinator with the Cougars, Holsinger helped Head Coach June Daugherty assemble nationally-ranked recruiting classes. His 2007-08 class ranked as high as 16th nationally according to Blue Star Basketball and last year's class contained a the program's first Parade All-American recruit in Jordan Kelley. This year's class features six freshmen from all over the country highlighted by a pair of talented players from Hawaii including three-time state player of the year Lia Galdeira.

Not just a star on the recruiting trail, Holsinger has helped lead the charge toward a ferocious Cougar defense. In 2009-10, WSU was the only school to place two individuals on the five-member Pacific-10 Conference Media All-Defensive Team. Then-freshman Carly Noyes became the first player in school history to lead the conference in blocks. The 2009-10 and 2010-11 Cougar teams produced two of the top block totals in program history, recording 98 in 2009-10 and 100 in 2010-11, the second-best mark in the Cougar single-season record book.

Holsinger had two more players earn Pac-12 All-Defensive Team accolades last year as the club grabbed the most rebounds in school-history and made the second-most steals in single-season history. The Cougars also finished second in the Pac-12 Conference in three-point defense and in steals.

Holsinger joined the WSU staff after serving as the head coach for Montana Tech from 2005-07. Holsinger was the sixth head women's basketball coach in Montana Tech history, and during his time there the team earned a top-25 ranking in the NAIA for the first time in school history. He also guided his squad to its greatest turnaround, going from three wins in 2005-06 to 16 wins in 2006-07.

Before coaching at Montana Tech, Holsinger served as the head assistant coach at The Master's College in Santa Clarita, Calif., from 1999-2005. During his tenure, the Mustangs posted a record of 132-58 and were a perennial top 10 nationally-ranked team. The squad also made four NAIA national tournament appearances.

Holsinger graduated from Federal Way High in Federal Way, Wash., in 1994. During his college career, he played his freshman season at Pacific from 1994-95, before transferring to Western Washington to complete his bachelor's of science degree in biology.

Brian currently lives in Pullman with his wife Stacey and they have a daughter, Brooklyn.
