Men's Golf Heads South for Inaugural Sycuan Invitational

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State University men's golf team travels south to El Cajon, Calif., to participate in the inaugural Sycuan Invitational, Monday...the two-day tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start on the par-72, 6,687-yard Willow Glen golf course...the final 18 holes of play begin Tuesday at 7:30 a.m....live scoring and complete results will be available at Golfstat.com...the tournament marks the fifth of the season for the men and the second to last of the fall.
The Field: The Cougars are paired with an 18-team field consisting of teams from nine different athletic conferences, including five teams from the Mountain West Conference and three teams from the Western Athletic Conference...the Cougars are the only team from the Pacific-10...the field includes No. 21 Wichita State, No. 29 San Diego State and No. 33 UNLV (rankings according to Golfweek)...also participating in the tournament are Air Force, Army, Cal Poly, Denver, Fresno State, Hawaii, Missouri, Navy, New Mexico State, UC Riverside, Utah, UTEP, Wyoming and Yale.
Traveling for the Cougars: Five Cougars are making the trek to California for the Sycuan Invitational...the Cougar contingent includes senior Jordan Mason, junior Brandon Black, sophomore Kevin Tucker and freshmen Nick Ellis and Dustin Poe...Black is making his first collegiate appearance this week...Poe has played as an individual in the Mean Green Classic earlier this season, but will represent Washington State for the first time this year.
Last Time Out: The Cougar men moved up one position in the final day of play to take 15th place at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational...the Cougar contingent finished the tournament with a combined score of 864 and only two strokes out of 13th place...the men were led by Mason, who finished the tournament with an even-par score of 213...Tucker fared well in the final round of competition and posted a 1-under 70...he finished the tournament with a score of 216...freshmen Xavier Dailly shot a 218 while sophomore Austin Hurt and Ellis carded a 222.
