Men's Golf Sets The Pace After Two Rounds Of Wolf Pack Classic
Oct. 8, 2001 GENOA, Nevada - Ignited by a record setting performance in the opening round, the Washington State men's golf team holds the lead after two rounds of the University of Nevada Wolf Pack Classic, Monday. The Cougars shot a two round total of 560 to set the pace in the 16-team tournament. Heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes, WSU is three ahead of the University of Denver and is seven stokes up on the University of Nevada. In the morning's opening round, WSU recorded a score of 270, shattering the previous single round team scoring record of 276 set in 1998 and 2001. In that record opening round all five Cougars - Jon Reehoorn (66), Dustin White (67), Ryan Camp (68), Isaac Woods (69), and Jeremy Taylor (69) - posted scores in the 60's. Reehoorn's opening 66 was the second lowest first round score in the tournament's 83-person field and tied for second lowest in school history. Reehoorn enters the final round tied for second after posting a 36-hole total of 135 (-9), one shot behind tournament leader Erik Billinger of Denver. The senior from Burlington, Wash., recorded an eagle along with 12 birdies en route to posting his two round total. "It is real exciting to have five guys with 60's in the first round," said WSU Head Coach Walt Williams. "Everyone is playing well and Jon is playing fabulously." Reehoorn leads a contingent of five Cougars in the top 25. Camp is tied for fifth with a 36-hole total of 140 (-4) while White enters Tuesday's final round tied for eighth at 142 (-2). Woods is tied for 12th with a two round total of 143 (-1) and Taylor is tied for 25th at 146 (+2). While the men are playing the Nevada the WSU women's team is at the Oregon State Shanico Invitational at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore. Freshman Kim Welch leads the Cougars after posting an opening round 76. The tournament continues with 18 holes Tuesday and Wednesday.
