June 26, 2009

PULLMAN - Washington State University rising senior Kevin Tucker leads a contingent of Cougars near the top of the leaderboard at the Washington State Golf Association's Men's Amateur Championship after moving into third place Thursday at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

Tucker moved up one spot with a third-round 73 (+1), and boasts a three-round total of 213 (-3). He is one of only six players under-par, and is three strokes back of the leader headed into the final round.

Former Cougar David Fern is tied for fourth place with a 54-hole total of 215 (-1). Fern led the team in scoring average in 2004-05 (74.0) and won the Inland Cup in 2005.

Tucker's future teammate Hank Frame is also in the top 10. Frame, who will join the Cougars in 2009-10, is tied for seventh with a three-round total of 216 (E).

Nick Ellis and Austin Hurt, both current members of the Cougar squad, are each in the top 15. Ellis is tied for 11th with a 2-over 218, and Hurt is tied for 14th with a 3-over 219. Hurt has posted back-to-back rounds of 69 (-3) after opening with an 81 on day one.

Future Cougar Kyle Hurt, who will also join the Cougars next season, is tied for 57th with a three-round total of 232 (+16).

The four-round event consists of 18 holes each day (June 23-26), with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will be held Friday afternoon following the completion of the tournament. Spectators are welcome at no charge.
