Cougar Men's Golf Receives NCAA Recognition
June 14, 2012
INDIANAPOLIS - The Washington State men's golf team was honored with an APR Recognition Award for being in the top-10 percent of all Division I men's golf programs during the 2010-11 academic year, NCAA President Mark Emmert announced Thursday.
"I applaud the accomplishments of our men's golf program," said WSU Director of Athletics Bill Moos. "To be recognized among the top 10 percent in their sport nationally reflects a great deal of commitment by the student-athletes, coaches and staff."
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Men's golf is the third Cougar program to be recognized with the APR Recognition Award, joining women's indoor track and field (2006-07) and women's golf (2004-05).
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced June 20.
