May 12, 2009
PULLMAN - Washington State junior Kevin Tucker will compete in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Golf West Regional Championships May 14-16, at the par-72, 6-863-yard Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif. The first round of play will get under way with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m., Thursday. The three-round tournament, hosted by the University of San Francisco, will feature 13 teams and nine other individuals vying for the right to advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships. The top five teams and the top individual not on an advancing team will qualify from each regional site to the NCAA Championships at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, May 26-30. "Kevin has been practicing hard this week and is excited to be going to San Francisco," WSU Head Coach Walt Williams said. "He is looking forward to getting another shot at some of the NCAA's best." Tucker, a native of Kennewick, Wash., was selected to the West Regional as an individual. He and former Cougar Ryan Witz are the only men's golfers in school history to be selected to play in the regional as individuals. Tucker earned All-Pacific-10 Conference honorable mention honors following this year's conference tournament, the first Cougar in three years to receive all-conference recognition. This season he also notched his first career tournament victory and recorded three top 10 finishes and six top 25 finishes. His win at the Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif., earned him Pac-10 Player of the Month honors for October.
