Men's Golf Returns to California for US Intercollegiate

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State men's golf team returns to California this week to compete in the U.S. Intercollegiate presented by the Maple Fund held at the par-70, 6,742 yard Stanford Golf Course at Stanford, Calif...the two-day tournament begins Saturday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. with 36 holes of play and will end with the final 18 holes Sunday teeing off at 7:30 a.m.
The Field: The 17 team field will be seeded as follows (Golfstat ranking): UCLA (6), USC (17), Washington (35), San Diego State (22), Stanford (42), Long Beach State (67), UC-Irvine (69), California (86), Washington State University (88), Kansas (100), UC-Davis, Rice (102), Oregon State (111), Oregon (114), Hawaii (104), Northern Colorado, San Jose State (144).
Traveling for the Cougars: Six Cougars will be traveling south this week: junior Chris Collins, redshirt junior Jordan Madison, sophomore Jordan Mason, senior Ryan Witz, redshirt sophomore Matt Fladwood, junior Kevin Chen...Chen will be traveling as an alternate...possibly playing as an individual.
Last Time Out: Pacific Coast Intercollegiate: The 34th annual Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, originally scheduled to begin Monday, April 3, at the Rancho San Marcos Golf Course in Santa Barbara, Calif., was cancelled due to inclement weather that dumped several inches of rain on the course.
Witz Wins Duck Invite: Senior Ryan Witz grabbed his first career victory at the Duck Invitational held at the par-72, 6,807 Shadow Hills Country Club at Junction City, Ore...Witz led the Cougars to a fourth place finish at 10-over 874...Witz climbed into the top spot during the second round and held his ground throughout the final 18 holes to finish at 5-under 211...junior Chris Collins placed tied for 20th...seventh top 25 effort of the year...sophomore Jordan Mason climbed 38 spots during the final 36 holes to finish knotted at 31st...redshirt junior Jordan Madison and redshirt senior David Fern finished tied for 36th and 57th, respectively.
Cougars Continue to Climb: Junior Chris Collins' 20th place finish at the Duck Invite moved him into a three-way tie for eighth on WSU's list of career top-25 finishes with ten...redshirt junior Jordan Madison's ninth place finish at the Washington National Championship moved him one finish closer to third place on WSU's list of career top-10 finishes...sits in sole possession of fourth with 10...now has 15 top-25 efforts moving him into a two-way tie for sixth on WSU's list of career top-25 finishes.
Cougars Caddy For Katrina: Ten Washington State golfers traveled to Seattle, Wash., Oct. 30, to take part in the "Golf for the Gulf" charity event sponsored by the Seattle based golf radio show "Tee It Up" on KJR Sports Talk 950AM. The Cougars volunteered as caddies for the event, which raised $8,500 for the Rural Health Clinic of Bayou Le Batre, Ala. The clinic, located just 27 miles south of Mobile, Ala., was wiped out when Hurricane Katrina sent a 25-foot storm surge through Bayou Le Batre. The proceeds from the tournament went directly to the health clinic's restoration efforts.
