Men's Golf Travels to California for Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State men's golf team travels to sunny California this week to compete in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate held at the par-71, 6,800 yard Rancho San Marcos Golf Course at Santa Barbara, Calif...the two-day tournament will start Monday with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. with 36 holes of play and will end with the final 18 holes teeing off at 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Field: The 17 team field will include (Golfweek ranking): Denver (50), Idaho, Long Beach State (84), New Mexico State (64), Pacific, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Santa Clara (57), San Diego (83), Cal State-Northridge, St. Mary's (88), UC-Davis, UC-Irvine (61), UC-Riverside, UC-Santa Barbara, Wyoming, and Washington State (92).
Traveling for the Cougars: Five Cougars will be traveling south this week: junior Chris Collins, senior Ryan Witz, redshirt junior Jordan Madison, sophomore Jordan Mason, and redshirt sophomore Matt Fladwood...Collins, Madison and Mason have competed in each tournament this season while Fladwood is making his fourth appearance of the season...will be the first tournament of the year competing as part of the team...has competed as an individual in four spring tournaments.
Last Time Out: Duck Invitational: Senior Ryan Witz grabbed his first career victory at the Duck Invitational held at the par-72, 6,807 Shadow Hills Country Club at Junction City, Ore...Witz led the Cougars to a fourth place finish at 10-over 874...Witz climbed into the top spot during the second round and held his ground throughout the final 18 holes to finish at 5-under 211...junior Chris Collins placed tied for 20th...seventh top 25 effort of the year...sophomore Jordan Mason climbed 38 spots during the final 36 holes to finish knotted at 31st...redshirt junior Jordan Madison and redshirt senior David Fern finished tied for 36th and 57th, respectively.
Last Year at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate: David Fern grabbed his fourth top 10 finish of the year tying for 10th (220, +4) only three strokes back of first place...the Cougars placed second in the 21-team field, eight strokes behind champion UC-Davis...junior Ryan Witz and sophomore Kevin Chen placed in the top 25...Witz nabbed third top-25 effort of the year at 14th...Chen's 20th place finish was his fourth top-25 finish of the year...sophomore Chris Collins and freshman Jordan Mason finished tied for 42nd and 57th, respectively to round out the Cougar contingent.
Cougars Continue to Climb: Junior Chris Collins' 20th place finish at the Duck Invite moved him into a three-way tie for eighth on WSU's list of career top-25 finishes with ten...redshirt junior Jordan Madison's ninth place finish at the Washington National Championship moved him one finish closer to third place on WSU's list of career top-10 finishes...sits in sole possession of fourth with 10...now has 15 top-25 efforts moving him into a two-way tie for sixth on WSU's list of career top-25 finishes.
Cougars Caddy For Katrina: Ten Washington State golfers traveled to Seattle, Wash., Oct. 30, to take part in the "Golf for the Gulf" charity event sponsored by the Seattle based golf radio show "Tee It Up" on KJR Sports Talk 950AM. The Cougars volunteered as caddies for the event, which raised $8,500 for the Rural Health Clinic of Bayou Le Batre, Ala. The clinic, located just 27 miles south of Mobile, Ala., was wiped out when Hurricane Katrina sent a 25-foot storm surge through Bayou Le Batre. The proceeds from the tournament went directly to the health clinic's restoration efforts.
