Anderson Leads With 18 to Play
Feb. 25, 2013
GOODYEAR, Ariz. - With the final 18 holes remaining in the fourth annual Snowman Getaway, Washington State sophomore Michael Andersonl sits atop the tournament leaderboard at 8-under par. His 65 in the second round Monday tied the best single-round mark in tournament history. The Cougar men's team concluded the two rounds Monday tied for third place at 3-under par. They trail first-place Missouri (-11) by 8 strokes and runner-up Gonzaga (-4) by one stroke with one round to play. The Cougars shot 3-over par in the first round, and followed that with a 9-stroke improvement in the second round to drop to 3-under. "It was really difficult for us out there," Cougar Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. "It was our first day of golf without wind in a week, and we started out really slow. We were making a move in the afternoon and had to count some high scores, so we have a lot of ground to make up because of that." Along with Anderson, senior Hank Frame was once again one of WSU's top performers. Frame was tied for sixth place at the conclusion of the first two rounds at 4-under par. He carded scores of 73 and 67 in the first and second rounds, respectively. "Michael (Anderson) was phenomenal," Clegg said. "This is his second year in a row of scoring a 65 in this tournament. Hank was outstanding again as well. Unfortunately the two of them didn't have a lot of help." Complete results of Monday's two rounds are available at golfstat.com. Tuesday's final 18-hole round will begin with an 8 a.m. Mountain/7 a.m. Pacific shotgun start. Live scoring and results will again be available at golfstat.com, and will be posted at wsucougars.com immediately following the tournament.
