Men's Golf Concludes First Round in Hawaii
Feb. 20, 2013
KAHUKU, Hawaii - The Washington State men's golf team finished the first of three rounds of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in 11th place at 17-over. The WSU men finished the first day ahead of five teams in the 16-team field. Cougar redshirt sophomore Sang Lee shot the best score of the day for WSU with a 71 (1-under). Lee tied for sixth place at the end of the first round with four other athletes. Senior Hank Frame finished close behind Lee with a score to par of 2-over (74). He tied for 23rd after day one of the tournament. WSU junior Blake Snyder and sophomore Michael Anderson each finished 8-over, and redshirt sophomore Alex Wagner rounded out the Cougar lineup at 9-over. "We had two guys play well and three guys who didn't play well," Cougar Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. "Sang (Lee) played a really good round and Hank (Frame) played pretty solid. The rest of it is on me. Our guys were not ready to go. We played unbelievably bad for nine holes. We have to play great golf the rest of the way and we have 36 holes to figure it out." California led the tournament after Wednesday's first round with a team score of 4-under. New Mexico carded a score three strokes behind the leaders (1-under). The tournament's second round will be held Thursday at the Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu's North Shore. Live scoring will be available during tournament play at www.golfstat.com. Results will also be posted at wsucougars.com at the conclusion of the round.
