Men's Golf with Steady Finish
Oct. 9, 2012
NORTH PLAINS, Ore. - On a cold morning at the Witch Hollow course at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, the Washington State men's golf team put forth a steady performance and shot a collective 2-over to finish in ninth place in the Pac-12 Preview. The Cougar men were led by senior Hank Frame in the tournament, who tied for eighth overall (211, -5).
Frame completed his second round Tuesday morning following Monday's darkness delay. He birdied both of his last two holes to match teammate Blake Snyder's 67 (-5) mark for the second round. In the third and final round, Frame carded a 72 to finish 5-under for the tournament (211) and tied for eighth overall.
The Cougar men had a balanced approach in the final round, as Jarrett Foote and Sang Lee matched Frame's score to par of even (72). The other two competitors for WSU, Blake Snyder and Michael Anderson, each finished with marks of 73 (+1) in the last round. Snyder and Foote narrowly missed the top 25, each with tournament scores of 219 (+3, tied for 29th).
"We played okay today," Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. "We had an okay tournament. Hank Frame had a great tournament. In essence, we had nine bad holes the first day and 45 good ones the rest of the tournament. There is improvement being made and things we are doing well. We just weren't able to get back out of the hole we created with those bad nine holes."
WSU's ninth-place finish put them ahead of Arizona, Utah, and Colorado for the tournament. California earned the tournament title with a team score of 29-under par.
The next competition for the Washington State men's golf team will be the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by Cal State Northridge from October 22-23 in Simi Valley, Calif.
