Freshmen Lead Cougs To Fourth Place Tie At Opus Northwest Husky Invite

BREMERTON, Wash. - Redshirt freshman Jordan Madison and freshman Kevin Chen finished tied for fifth and tied for seventh respectively to lead the Cougar men's golf team to a fourth place tie at the Opus Northwest Husky Invite at Gold Mountain Golf Complex, a par-72, 7059 yard course Tuesday.
Madison, playing in only his third career collegiate tournament, finished in the top 10 for the third straight week by shooting a final round 73 (+1) and ended with a total of 218 (+2) for the 54 holes. Previously, Madison finished tied for ninth at the Mean Green Invitational Sept. 15-16 and in seventh at the Northwest Collegiate Classic Sept. 25-26.
Chen entered the day tied for 25th, but fired a team low 2-under 70 and jumped 18 places in the standings. Chen was only one of seven golfers to shoot a round under par Tuesday.
The Cougar team also jumped in the standings three spots, entering the final round in seventh place and finishing tied for fourth with BYU. WSU finished strong by shooting a 367 (+7) in the third round and posted their third consecutive top five finish of the year.
Senior Ryan Camp finished tied for 32nd at 11-over by shooting an even par 72 for the day. Senior teammate Isaac Woods also finished tied for 32nd. Freshman Matt Fladwood finished his day tied for 38th and sophomore Chad Carlson rounded out the team tied for 47th place.
The Cougars will have a week to prepare for their next tournament, the Ernest F. Lied Classic at Reno, Nev. Oct. 6-7.
