Ryan Camp Ties School Record with a 7-under 65
Sept. 7, 2002
MADISON, Wis. - Junior Ryan Camp fired a school record tying seven-under par 65 in the second round of the Badger Invitational at the University Ridge Golf Course, Saturday.
Camp's round began ominously with a bogey on the first hole but rallied with birdies on five and seven to complete the front nine with a 35. After pars on 10 and 11, Camp caught fire, playing the final seven holes in six-under-par with four birdies and an eagle to complete the back nine with a 30.
Camp, a native of Spokane, Wash., moved up 44 spots to enter Sunday's final round tied for 26th (+2). His performance marked the third time in WSU history that a player has shot 65 in a round, joining Jeremy Champoux (1998) and Dustin White (2000).
As a team, the Cougars moved up one spot into a tie for fifth by shooting a four-under 284, a nine shot improvement over Friday's first round. WSU enters Sunday's final round 11 shot out of first place held by Illinois and Toledo (566) and sits three shots back of fourth place Colorado State (574).
White carded an even-par 72 to remain at one-under 143 heading into the final round. White is tied with teammate Ryan Ressa, who shot a one-over 73, and five other players for 12th. Junior Isaac Woods is tied for 40th and freshman Ben Bryson is in 72nd to round out the Cougar contingent. Greg Pieczynski of Penn State shot a second consecutive 67 to lead the tournament at 134 (-10).
