April 20, 2003
STANFORD, Calif. - Led by the eighth place effort by Ryan Ressa, the Washington State men's golf team finished in eighth place at the US. Intercollegiate at the Par 71, 6,786 yard Stanford Golf Course at Stanford, Calif.
Ressa shot a final round score of one-over 72 for a three round total of 210, the lowest three-round tournament score of his career. The eighth place finish also marks Ressa's first career Top 10 finish for the Cougars.
Isaac Woods continued his good play, finishing in a tie for 15th, and averaging even par for the tournament. Ryan Camp just missed a Top 25 finish, ending up in a tie for 28th, followed by Dustin White at a tie for 74th, and Chad Carlson at a tie for 85th.
As a team the Cougars moved up one spot from their ninth place position after round two, finishing in eighth in the field of 16, and ahead of Pac-10 rival California. UCLA was tournament champ at 12-under.
Head Coach Walt Williams expected the Cougars to compete at a high level, and the Cougars did just that by defeating two other teams competing for a postseason spot in Pacific and San Jose State.
The Cougars now prepare for the 2003 Pac-10 Championships April 28-30 at Glendale, Calif.
