Fern Tied For Eighth After Two Rounds of Pinehurst Invitational

PINEHURST, N.C. - Washington State University redshirt junior David Fern is tied for eighth place at the inaugural Pinehurst Invitational, shooting 148 (+4) over two rounds at the par-72, 7,035-yard Pinehurst No. 8 Golf Course, Monday. Fern is looking to record his fourth top 10 finish of the season, a feat that would earn him a tie for fifth on WSU's all-time list for top 10 finishes in a season. Sophomore Chris Collins is tied for 16th place, finishing day one with a score of 151 (+7). Collins opened the tournament with a 1-under-par 71, the second lowest score of the first round. Led by Fern and Collins, the Cougars are in eighth place as a team. With a two-round total of 612, the Cougars lead host East Carolina University by one stroke. Junior Ryan Witz shot 155 (+11), sophomore Kevin Chen shot 158 (+14) and sophomore Logan Toskey shot 162 (+18) to round out the scoring for the Cougars.
