March 24, 2003

Eugene, Ore. - Led by the opening round 69 by Ryan Ressa, the Washington State men's golf team is in third place after one round at the Duck Invite at the Par-72, 6,854 yard Eugene Country Club, Monday.

Ressa shot a 31 on the front nine followed by a 38 over the last nine holes for the green torching total of 69 and a tie for 5th. Ryan Camp shot an even par round of 72 for a tie at 16th, followed by Isaac Woods at a tie for 24th at 1-over, and Dustin White at a tie for 68th at 6-over. Chad Carlson finished the round at a tie for 89th to round out the Cougar contingent.

As a team, the Cougars finished the day in third place ahead of perennial Pac-10 powers UCLA, Washington, Stanford, Oregon and Oregon State in a very competitive field of 16 teams. Oregon leads all school with an opening round total of 285 for a five-stroke lead.

"I am very pleased with the competitive spirit the men showed out there today," said Head Coach Walt Williams. "I expect us to continue to be right there with the rest of this very competitive field."

The Cougars look to continue their success on the links tomorrow during the final day of the 2003 Duck Invite.
