Redshirt Junior Jordan Madison Garners Ninth Top 10 Career Finish

ST.GEORGE, Utah- Washington State University's men's golf team opened up their spring season with a solid performance from redshirt junior Jordan Madison. Madison finished tied for third at the Thunderbird Invite held at the par-72, 6,781 yard Sunbrook Golf Course, Feb.13-14.

Madison finished the first round in fourth place but a 1-under par effort in the second round moved him up one spot to finish in a three way tie for third (139, -5). The top-10 effort marks his third of the year and ninth of his career. Madison now rests alone in fourth place in WSU's record books for total career top-10 finishes.

Senior Ryan Witz's 3-under 69 in the second round helped him climb up the charts nine spots to finish tied for sixth (140, -4). Witz, who competed as an individual, now has three top-10 finishes under his belt as a Cougar.

Junior Chris Collins ended the day in the top 25 with a final score of 1-under 143. Collins, whose first round score of 67 ties his career best, finished 15th. Collins now has seven career top-25 finishes. Redshirt senior David Fern also carded a top-25 finish ending the day knotted in a four way tie for 24th (146, +2). The Pepperdine transfer now has eight top-25 efforts as a Cougar.

Redshirt sophomore Matt Fladwood and freshman Max Reinland, playing as individuals, placed t-55th and t-56th, respectively. Junior Kevin Chen's second round score of 2-over 74 moved him up the charts 18 spots to finish in 65th. Chen also competed as an individual.

Sophomore Jordan Mason (159, +15) and redshirt junior Chad Carlson (160, +16) wrapped up WSU's scoring efforts finishing t-69th and t-75th, respectively.

 

 

The Cougars ended the tournament with a two-day total of 587 (+11). Host Southern Utah won the tournament with a 13-under 563 effort over defending tournament champion Denver (571, -5).

The Cougars return to action Feb. 27 when they host the Inland Cup at Clarkson, Wash.
