Quarterback Alex Brink and free safety Husain Abdullah took time out of their busy schedules to talk about football, how they got started playing and where they are headed from here.
What is the most challenging thing about being a quarterback?
Brink: The attention on and off the field - you always have to be aware of your actions and how they are being portrayed.
What is the most challenging thing about playing free safety?
Abdullah: Regardless of what happens, if someone scores a long touchdown, it's your fault. You are the last line of defense. If all 10 people happen to trip and fall, you have a chance to save everybody.
How did you get started playing football?
Brink: I was the All-American kid. I played baseball, basketball and soccer. When I was in middle school I started playing football and my dad was a quarterback so I was one too.
Abdullah: My brothers and I just watched football and it looked like fun; we wanted to play. We were told we were too skinny but we just went down, tried out and started playing football.
What are your post-graduate plans?
Brink: I'd like to take a shot at an NFL career for as long as my body holds up. I have my sport management degree and after that I'd like to go into the sport business.
Abdullah: Hopefully I can play at the next level. If that doesn't happen, I'll attend graduate school. I want to be an academic advisor for high school.
Most memorable moment in Cougar football?
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Brink: Beating Oregon here last season. It was a great win at that point in the season and being from Eugene, it was special. When I passed Jason Gesser on the career yards list at the Arizona State game and having him there to watch it as well as receiving the game ball was huge.
Abdullah: In my first college game against New Mexico, I had an interception and a fumble recovery late in game. It was on national television; it was a really big game.
I go out on the field beforehand and throw a bit and now, more than ever, I just look around and take it all in because it's going by so fast.
Not really, I just go out and play football.
What's playing on your iPod right now?
Brink: Fall Out Boy and the new Twista CD
Abdullah: Kanye West's latest CD, Common and John Legend
If you could pick any position to play, which position would you choose to play and why?
Brink: I always tell people I would be a defensive back or a wide receiver. I think I'd choose to be a receiver though just because it's a lot of fun to catch the ball and run with it.
Abdullah: Corner because sometimes I believe I'm a better corner than I am a safety anyway.
Do you prefer night games or day games?
Brink: Definitely night games. It reminds me of my high school playing days and being under the lights. I feel like I play better at night, as well.
Abdullah: I prefer night games; I have way more energy.
If you could make up your own receiving corps, who would be on it?
Brink: Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison
