The Cougars defensive backfield returns a good number of veterans led by junior safety Deone Bucannon and junior cornerback Damante Horton. Bucannon was second on the team in tackles last season while Horton had a breakout season, earning All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors after recording four interceptions. Redshirt seniors Daniel Simmons and Tyree Toomer along with redshirt juniors Casey Locker and Nolan Washington all return after earning a bulk of the playing time last season.

A couple newcomers that will try to break into the two-deep will be freshmen David Bucannon (brother of Deone), Feddie Davey (out of Miami, Fla.) and Taylor Taliulu (out of Hawaii).
