PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University added shoulder pads to their fall camp practice on Rogers Field Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars worked out for a little over two hours under the sun, continuing their preparations for the 2012 season. Head coach Mike Leach and his staff dialed up the intensity with the addition of shoulder pads after spending the past two practices in just helmets.

WSU opened practice with a couple one-on-one matchups in the center of the practice field before they split off into individual drills and later worked through some team segments. In 7-vs.-7, freshman David Bucannon (younger brother of Deone) picked off a pass on the east field while redshirt senior Daniel Simmons made an interception of his own on the west field.

During 11-vs.-11, both the offense and defense traded big plays with defensive back Mike McAdie corralling a tipped pass to record an interception for the defense before running back Teondray Caldwell broke off a long run that brought some big cheers from the offensive players.Towards the end of the day, quarterback Connor Halliday connected to Gino Simone for a touchdown.

The Cougars will again practice with shoulder pads tomorrow at 2:45 p.m. on Rogers Field. There were a couple good pops today but there will be more once the team goes full pads Monday.
