MATTHEWS' WSU CAREER
RS-JUNIOR (2011):
Did not appear in any games after sustaining a back injury.
RS-SOPHOMORE (2010): Missed the entire season while recovering from shoulder surgery.
RS-FRESHMAN (2009): Earned a varsity letter after appearing in eight games on the season, two in a starting role...one of 14 Cougar freshman to start a game...reserve safety primarily played special teams before starting against both Arizona and UCLA in place of the injured Chima Nwachukwu...missed WSU's first two games of 2009 while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery...also missed WSU's final two games of 2009 with a left shoulder injury...registered 13 tackles on the season (seven solo) and one pass break-up...recorded a season-high five tackles against the Wildcats (three solo)...had three tackles each against Oregon and Notre Dame...named first-team Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic.
FRESHMAN (2008): Redshirt season.

MATTHEWS' HIGH SCHOOL CAREER
Earned four varsity letters under head coach Steve Coury at Lake Oswego High School...team finished as 4-A state runner-up and co-champions of the Three Rivers League FRESHMAN season...led team to outright Three Rivers League Championship each of the next three seasons...team made it to the 4-A state semifinals during SOPHOMORE season...named all-league as a defensive back during JUNIOR season...team made the 6-A state semifinals...two-way starter as a SENIOR, leading team to an undefeated regular season and the State 6A quarterfinals...team captain was also named to the all-league first team on both offense and defense...earned all-state accolades as a safety...member of Scout.com's Northwest Hot 100 (No. 71)...ranked as the top defensive back out of Oregon by Scout.com.
