BIRNBAUM'S HIGH SCHOOL CAREER

Earned two varsity letters for football coach Mark Pasquarella...also played basketball...during SENIOR season selected All-Sierra League first team quarterback...completed 94 of 174 passes for 1,778 yards and 19 touchdowns...led team to a 12-2 record...team reached CIF Div. III title game...set school records for completions (157) and yards (2,431)...threw for 26 touchdowns.

BIRNBAUM'S WSU CAREER

Freshman (1995-96): Redshirt season...handled all quarterbacking duties the first week of spring drills in the absence of Ryan Leaf and emerged a solid number two.

RS-Freshman (1996-97): V-letter...played in four of WSU's 11 games (Oregon, San Jose State, Oregon State, UCLA)...completed seven passes for 93 yards, with one interception...best outings included four-of-nine passing for 53 yards against SJSU and two-of-six for 36 yards at UCLA.

RS-Sophomore (1997-98): V-letter...played in five games...completed 11 of 19 passes for 142 yards, a touchdown and an interception...completed five of six passes for 67 yards, including first career touchdown pass against Boise State...against California completed four of nine passes for 31 yards and carried the ball four times for 37 yards and a touchdown.

RS-Junior (1998-99): V-letter...surgery on right knee in January to repair a torn ACL kept him out of spring drills...started WSU's first six games and the last two to end the year with eight starts...missed the USC game with a right strained knee and right elbow inflammation...guided WSU to its only three wins of the year in the first three games of the season...threw for a season-high 299 yards and two touchdowns in win over Idaho, including a 97-yard TD throw to Nian Taylor, the longest in WSU history...threw for 221 yards and one score at UCLA and for 201 yards with one touchdown in season-opening win over Illinois...finished the year hitting 114 of 235 passes for 1,677 yards, 11 interceptions, six touchdowns...gained 1,519 yards in total offense...his 167.7 yards passing per game ranked seventh in the Pac-10 and his 151.9 yards in total offense ranked him eighth...he was tenth in pass efficiency at 1075 and his 97-yard pass was the longest in Pac-10 action...earned the following game awards: Offensive Back - Illinois; Big Play Offense - Idaho.

RS-Senior (1999-00): During three spring scrimmages completed 17 of 36 passes for 226 yards, no interceptions and no touchdowns.
