Washington State's Glue Guy: Daven Harmeling
Dec. 7, 2006
What is the difference between your effort freshman year (2004-05) and this year?
"This year I am more confident, more aggressive and more vocal. I think freshman year we had the seniors and were looking to them for leadership. So, I think it's natural for us to now step forward. I hope guys respect me, and I hear they do, so I feel more confident that way."
Who would win an arm wrestling match, Aron Baynes or you?
"Baynes doesn't have human strength. He is literally like an animal. He is one guy on the team I would not want to play in the first round of an arm wrestling tournament. I would take on anyone else, not guaranteeing I would win, but I would try."
What one word would you use to describe your role on the team?
"The Glue Guy. I feel like I'm not like the most talented but I think I have some intangibles like my hard work and my leadership. If we are slumping a little bit I think I can bring that to the table and really help out the team."
What is your biggest goal for the rest of this season?
"To not take any steps back, not overlook any opponents, and just to keep winning games to improve our chances of making postseason play."
Describe your feeling after the victory over Gonzaga (Dec. 5).
"It was almost surreal like an out of body experience. It felt like at any moment you would wake up and it wouldn't be true. It was something else."
