Washington State Game Notes

COUGARS AND VANDALS CONTINUE LONGEST RIVALRY WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI: One of the nation's longest continuous rivalries continues as Washington State University men's basketball (3-3) hosts Idaho (1-3), Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum.
• The game can be seen on the Pac-12 Networks, as Lamar Hurd and JB Long have the call.
• Bud Nameck, in this 20th year with Cougar Basketball, will have all the action on the Cougar IMG Radio Network.

Moore's Buzzer Beater Lifts WSU Over Idaho Reggie Moore came off a screen and hit a jumper from the corner with just under a second left to lift Washington State to a 66-64 victory over Idaho on Wednesday night.

WSU AGAINST THE WAC:
• WSU holds a 179-124 (.591) all-time record against current members of the Western Athletic Conference.
• New Mexico State, Texas-Arlington and Texas State are the only current WAC member that WSU has never faced.
• The Cougars have a winning record against every WAC team they've faced except Utah State, holding just a 1-7 mark against the Aggies.
• Of the 303 games WSU has played against members of the WAC, 267 have come against Idaho.

ABOUT THE COUGARS:
• The Cougars snapped their 3-game losing streak and are currently 3-3 on the season.
• WSU is 3-0 at home (Eastern Washington - Nov. 10, Utah Valley - Nov. 14 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff - Nov. 24), 0-1 on the road (at Pepperdine - Nov. 16) and 0-2 at neutral-sites (vs. Kansas - Nov. 19 and vs. Texas A&M - Nov. 20, both at the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City, Kan.).
• Two of WSU's three losses have come by 2 points or less, one of them in overtime and the other on a buzzer beater.
• Brock Motum leads the team with 16.0 points per game and 6.7 rebounds.
• Dexter Kernich-Drew is chipping in 9.0 points on .488 shooting from the field, while Mike Ladd is adding 8.8 points and 5.0 rebounds an outing.
• DaVonté Lacy, who scored in double-figures in WSU's first two games, injured his left knee in the first 5 minutes of the Cougars' fourth game against Kansas, Nov. 19.
• Lacy missed WSU's games against Texas A&M and Arkansas-Pine Bluff and is out 1-2 weeks.

MOTUM SCORES 1,000TH POINT:
• Brock Motum became the 33rd Washington State men's basketball student-athlete to score 1,000 career points with 14 points against Kansas, Monday, Nov. 19.
• He is the third Cougar in the last four seasons to reach 1,000 career-points...Klay Thompson scored his 1,000th point during the 2009-10 season and Reggie Moore reached 1,000 points in the Cougs second-to-last game of the 2011-12 season.
• With 1,029 points, Motum holds the 29th-best career scoring mark in WSU history...he is just 8 points away from Dennis Hogg in 28th.

LAST OUTING:
• The Cougars defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 66-38, Saturday, Nov. 24.
• Royce Woolridge scored a career-high 14 points...his previous high was 11 done at Pepperdine, Nov. 16.
• D.J. Shelton was 5-for-5 from the free throw line, his best free throw performance of the season...his 5 made are a season-high and it's the first time this season he has been perfect from the stripe.
• Shelton added a career-high 4 assists.
• Dexter Kernich-Drew scored in double-figures for the second-straight game and just the second time this season and third in his career...he finished with 10 points, all 10 of his points came in the first half.
• Brock Motum has scored at least 14 points in each game this season, he finished with 14 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff...he added 8 rebounds and a season-high 4 assists.
• Freshman walk-on Bryce Leavitt scored a career-high 4 points and his first points of his career in just his second-career game...all 4 of his points came from the free throw line. • Freshman Brett Boese had a career-high 4 assists...going into Saturday's game he had 1 career assist in 5 games.
• WSU assisted on 20 of its 23 made baskets...WSU's 20 assists are its most since dishing out 20 against San Francisco in the CBI last season (March 13, 2012).
• The Cougars shot 100 percent from the free throw line (12-for-12), marking the second time they've been perfect from the charity stripe this season...they were 3-for-3 against Kansas in Kansas City, Mo. Nov. 19.
• The Cougars' 25 3-point attempts mark a season high (shot 24 against Utah Valley, Nov. 14).

PERFECT AT FRIEL IN NOVEMBER:
• With its win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Nov. 24, WSU improved to 45-0 all-time in the month of November at Friel Court.
• The Cougars have won 45-straight November games in Pullman and are 47-1 (the loss came before the Cougars moved into Beasley Coliseum).
• WSU's only loss in Pullman in November came against Colorado State, Nov., 30, 1962, by a score of 77-47.

COUGARS GO `DOWN UNDER':
• The Cougars spent two weeks in Australia, Aug. 3-16, 2012, as part of an NCAA approved international tour.
• The team made stops in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane/Gold Coast and Cairns, playing five games in all.
• WSU went 2-3 in those games, three of them against teams of the NBL (National Basketball League), Australia's highest professional league.
• Brock Motum averaged 27.2 points in the five games, including a 41-point output against the Cairns Taipans in the final game of the tour.
• Reggie Moore averaged 13.0, Dexter Kernich-Drew 8.4 and Mike Ladd 6.4 points per game.
• The Cougar roster contains three Aussies; Motum (Brisbane), Kernich-Drew (Melbourne) and James Hunter (Sydney).

MOTUM A CANDIDATE FOR THE WOODEN AWARD:
• Senior Brock Motum is one of 50 preseason candidates for the 2012-13 John R. Wooden Award.
• Motum is the second Cougar in three seasons to make the list, as Klay Thompson was named to the preseason top-50 prior to the 2010-11 season.
• Before that, Derrick Low and Kyle Weaver were both named to the preseason top-50 for the 2007-08 season.
• Thompson went on to make the midseason top-30 cut in 2010-11, as did Low in 2007-08.
• This season's preseason list contains student-athletes from 16 different conferences, including four from the Pac-12 Conference.
• Motum is joined by André Roberson (Colorado), Allen Crabbe (California), and Solomon Hill (Arizona).

MOTUM'S BREAKOUT JUNIOR SEASON:
• Washington State junior Brock Motum had a breakout season in 2011-12 as he led the Cougars and the Pac-12 in scoring in both the overall games and conference only games.
• Motum averaged 18.0 points per game in all games, edging out Oregon State's Jared Cunningham with 17.9 points per game.
• In league games the Australian averaged 20.7 points per game, over a point per game ahead of Cunningham with 19.2 points per game.
• He also ranked sixth in field goal percentage (.554) and seventh in rebounds per game (6.4 rpg), making him the only player in the Pac-12 to rank in the top-13 in scoring, field goal percentage and rebounding.
• Motum finished the season ranked 38th in the country in points per game and 26th in field goal percentage.
• In contrast to his junior season, Motum played 799 minutes in 54 games his first two seasons combined at Washington State...this season he clocked 1,072 minutes of action.
• In his first two seasons he averaged 5.9 points and 2.3 rebounds a game, but still did it at a high shooting clip, .591.
• Last season alone Motum had 293 more points than he did in his first two seasons combined (613 compared to 320), and averaged 18.0 points per game, 12.1 more points than his first two seasons.
• Motum also had 216 rebounds last season, more than his 72 his first two years combined, for a 6.4 rebounding average, over four rebounds more a game.
• He continued to shoot at a high clip at .554 last season for a .567 career field goal percentage.

MOTUM JOINS ELITE COMPANY:
• Junior Brock Motum grabbed his 200th rebound of the 2011-12 season March 7 in the Pac-12 Tournament and had 613 points and 216 rebounds last season.
• He joined two other Cougars, Steve Puidokas and Larry Beck as the only WSU players to reach 500 points and 200 boards in a season.
• Beck had 506 points and 214 rebounds in 1955-56, while Puidokas recorded 559 points and 259 rebounds in 1974-75.
