Cougars Face Colonels at Great Alaska Shootout

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - The Washington State University men's basketball team continues action at the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout as it faces Nicholls State in Pool A action, Friday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. PST (5 p.m. AST) at Sullivan Arena.

The Cougars (4-0) will take on the Colonels (0-6) for the first time in the two schools' histories. Located in Thibodaux, La., Nicholls State is a member of the Southland Conference. Anatoly Bose leads the Colonels with 19.0 points per game. He also leads the team with 5.0 rebounds a game.

Sophomore Klay Thompson leads the Cougars and the Pacific-10 Conference and is ranked fourth in the nation with 26.5 points per game. Thompson is also leading the Cougs on the boards with 5.3 rebounds an outing. He was named the Carrs/Safeway Player of the Game following Wednesday's 87-68 victory over Alaska Anchorage in which he put up 25 points.

This is the Cougars' second appearance in the Great Alaska Shootout, as they participated in the tournament during the 1981-82 season. WSU defeated Alaska Anchorage but fell to Southwestern Louisiana and Iona to finish 1-2. That year Southwest Louisiana defeated Marquette in the championship game.

Depending on Thursday's outcome, the Cougars will play either Houston, Oklahoma or San Diego, Saturday, Nov. 28 at either 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m. or 8 p.m. PST time.
