Men's Basketball Signs Simon to an NLI for the 2010-11 Season

Nov. 11, 2009

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington native Patrick Simon has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Washington State University men's basketball team next season, head coach Ken Bone announced Wednesday.

"We're excited about the signing of Patrick Simon," Bone said. "He's a very skilled player who has good length to him and is an outstanding shooting with great range. I'm sure the Washington State Cougar fans are excited to see that he's finally going to be ending up here at WSU."

A three-year letterwinner at Ephrata High School in Ephrata, Wash., Simon (6-8, 205, F) missed last basketball season with a broken foot after earning first-team All-State and All-Central Washington Athletic Conference honors as a sophomore. That season he led Ephrata HS to a 25-2 record and the 2A State Championship while being named to the all-tournament team. He averaged 13 points per game as a freshman in 2006-07 and was named second team All-CWAC. Heading into this season, Simon was named Third Team Best in the West by the Long Beach Press Telegram.

"I've had the opportunity to watch Patrick play for two years but always knowing he would end up here and kind of envious that he would be a Cougar and not at Portland State where I was," Bone said. "I think he's a player that has really good basketball IQ, he knows how to play, he's unselfish, and he's also a great shooter. I think he'll bring a lot to the table and we're excited to have him as part of the program".

The Cougars currently have eight Washington natives on their roster, while all three student-athletes signed by first-year head coach Bone have been from the state.
