Cougar Men's Basketball to take on Saint Martin's in Exhibition Tuesday

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University men's basketball team will host Saint Martin's University for an exhibition game, Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum's Friel Court, in its final push before the 2012-13 season officially begins.

Head coach Ken Bone returns to the Cougars for his fourth season, after taking his teams to two-straight postseason tournaments. The team boasts two returning starters, including 2011-12 Pac-12 leading scorer, Brock Motum. Joining Motum and sophomore DaVonte Lacy are six more returning letterwinners and two returning squad members.

"I'm just looking to accomplish a lot more wins than last season," Motum said at Pac-12 Media Day. "I think if I can score more than last year, and that helps us win more games, then I'll do that by any means, but it's not more on a personal note; it's more a team focus. As long as we win more games, I'll be happy."

Among the returning letterwinners are senior guard Mike Ladd, junior forward Will DiIorio, redshirt sophomore guard Dexter Kernich-Drew and redshirt junior forward D.J. Shelton, along with squad members sophomore Royce Woolridge and freshman Dominic Ballard, both whom redshirted last season.

Joing this year's squad are four transfers and two true freshmen. Two of the transfers, Jordan Railey (Iowa State) and Brett Kingma (Oregon) will sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules, but Keaton Hayenga and James Hunter, and Brett Boese and Bryce Leavitt will be eligible immediately.

 

 

"We went to Australia this summer, partially because of Brock Motum, and he has a couple teammates from Australia, so we have three guys in our program right now," Bone said at media day. "It gave us a chance to play some games, and get some practices in that I think have led into this fall where our guys are doing a great job so far on the court."

Washington State has played Lewis-Clark State in its exhibition games in years past, but played Saint Martin's four times during the regular season, holding a 3-1 record. The teams last played during the regular season, Nov. 27, 1984 in Pullman with the Cougars defeating the Saints, 66-51.

Admission is free to the public on Tuesday night, as is parking. Washington State will open up the regular season in Pullman when they host Eastern Washington, Nov. 110 at 4:30 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum.
