PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University men's basketball held its Free Kids' Clinic, Sunday, Oct. 28 at its practice gym on the campus of WSU, for over 100 children, grades kindergarten through sixth.

The clinic featured instruction from members of the Cougar men's basketball team with the coaching staff in attendance, including head coach Ken Bone.

Following a brief introduction by the team and a stretching session, the kids broke into eight different groups based on their ages. In their groups the children visited four different stations, including defense, shooting, passing and dribbling. Bone made his way from group-to-group, helping out with instruction and observing.

"I'm excited about the turnout for this year's kids' clinic," WSU Coordinator of Basketball Operations Mike Simonson said. "Each year the student-athletes really enjoy working with the kids in the community. Pullman is a very supportive town and it's great getting to give back."

At the conclusion of the clinic, Bone addressed the participants and asked them questions about what they learned. He emphasized the importance of a good attitude in being a part of a team and spoke about teamwork, sportsmanship and basic fundamentals, in addition to other topics. He concluded the clinic by giving the kids the opportunity to ask the student-athletes questions, where they learned that D.J. Shelton is the best dancer on the team, James Hunter's favorite move is the slam dunk and why Keaton Hayenga likes Kobe Bryant.

The men's basketball team has been a prominent part of the Palouse community the past year and a half as it has held camps, participated in Palouse Habitat for Humanity, visited and helped in elementary school classrooms and attended the Pullman Senior Center, among other activities

The Cougars will host Saint Martin's in exhibition action, Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum before opening the season at home Saturday, Nov. 10 against Eastern Washington at 4:30 p.m.
