PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University men's basketball carried over its strong community presence from the summer as seniors Abe Lodwick and Marcus Capers, redshirt freshman Dexter Kernich-Drew and operations assistant Tim Marrion visited the Pullman Senior Center Friday, Sept. 16.

Lodwick, Capers, Kernich-Drew and Marrion spent the lunch hour at the Senior Center located in downtown Pullman, introducing themselves to and visiting with senior citizens from the Palouse Community.

"It was great getting out in the community again, especially meeting these people that have such great stories to share," Kernich-Drew said. "It was cool because they were so excited to talk with us and knew quite a bit about the team already."

The visit began with Marrion introducing the three student-athletes and talking a little about the team. Lodwick then took the microphone to preview the upcoming 2011-12 season and spoke a bit about himself, telling the group where he's from and his major in school. Capers and Kernich-Drew also shared their information with the room of senior citizens. Following the introductions the four walked around the room, sitting down at various tables and making conversation with various members of the group.

"Having had the opportunity to be with the guys for each community service event this summer and fall, it is great to see not only their commitment but also their enthusiasm for these events," Marrion said. "We had a great time interacting with everybody at the Pullman Senior Center and are excited about the partnership we are establishing with them."

This summer, and now since the school year has started, the Cougars have been busy in the community. In June WSU men's basketball held three camps, including a day camp for kids ages 8-14. In July members of the Cougar basketball team participated in Palouse Habitat for Humanity and Pullman Learning Center's sports week and in August the team made appearances at the Lentil Festival's street fair and parade. The entire team spent time before the Cougars' last football game, Sept. 10, signing autographs as part of `family day.'

The Cougars will hold a free kids' clinic Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the basketball practice gym. For more information, click HERE.
