PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University redshirt senior Taylor Rochestie will be put back on scholarship for the 2008-09 basketball season, WSU Head Coach Tony Bennett announced Thursday.

Last October, Rochestie gave up his scholarship for his senior season in order to open up another scholarship for the men's basketball program. His generosity allowed the Cougars to sign an additional player to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period in November. Following the 2007-08 season, one WSU basketball student-athlete was granted a release from the program in April, allowing the Cougars to sign a sixth freshman to an NLI. Just over a month later, another student-athlete was granted his release, opening up the scholarship that is now being awarded to Rochestie.

"We are excited to be able to give Taylor back a scholarship," Bennett said. "Obviously, last fall he and his family displayed a great amount of generosity and unselfishness towards our basketball program. When a scholarship became available in May, it was a no-brainer to award it to Taylor."

Last season Rochestie set the school record for minutes played with 1,223 as the team's starting point guard. He ranked 10th in the nation with a 2.8 assist/turnover ratio and was 69th in the country with 4.7 assists per outing. Rochestie's 10.4 points per game was tied for third-best on the team. A communication major, Rochestie was named to the Pacific-10 All-Academic First Team.
